Hello Baby

I checked it because it was illustrated by Obata Takeshi. As oneshot, I was a bit aprehensive but after reading it I couldn’t help but to think what a good oneshot it was. Here’s info for you:
Genre: Action, Drama, Tragedy.
Author: Morita Masanori
Illustrator: Obata Takeshi
Year: 2007 (oneshot)
Serialized in: Jump SQ
Licensed by: -
Read Online: Onemanga, Mangahelpers
Notes: There is a translation fault (if you can call it that) concerning the ending in the Mangafox translated version that can be confusing, in comparision with the version I read in Onemanga version whereas the ending is clearly stated. I advise you to check both online manga sites because overall the versions are a bit different in translation.
If you wish, highlight the following blank text to see my opinion regards the ending.
Summary: In an underground set, a gangster who wants recognisition takes the job of killing the local yakuza boss. However, he discovers he’s going to be a dad in the day before the assignment.
Will his conviction be shaken tomorrow ?

Oneshots. Easily done, hardly satisfying. This one was both.
It had a interesting plot as oneshot, that put me a bit aprehensive since it was a oneshot, but after reading I can’t think of it being more than what it was: a oneshot. A very well conceived plot indeed, that seems fullfilled when you finish. And Obata did a great job bringing it to life.
In the japanese version, what it’s written in the panel at the end is respectively romanized: 「な。。。何や 俺に そつくりやんけ」 (na…nanya oreni sotsu kuri yanke). I did some research and as ore ni means to me, sotsu means my son, kuri chestnut and yanke is used to give emphasis, I believe this phrase can be roughly translated as “W-what (maybe What the hell would be more appropriate)… It sure looks like my chestnut son to me.”
So yes, the son was his (yay). Spoilers here
Reasons to read it:
- original oneshot;
- well driven story;
- a gangster protagonist;
- beautifully illustrated by Takeshi Obata.
Definitely recommend giving it a check.
Previews (Hello Baby, taken from Mangafox):

i love this mangas from the firts time i read it , Obata Takeshi has done a good job ,and i hope see another tom of this mangas because i dont think this is the end for kin-chan and if Obata Takeshi keep working in this mangas she will be the most awesome mangas like naruto or one peace or bleach ……….
Agreed. Obata’s art is great, and you can see his partnership with Tsugumi Ohba led Death Note to success. Unfortunately, being this manga a oneshot, I don’t think Kin-chan will be back (sigh). But you may want to check, if you haven’t already, the latest work of their partnership, Bakuman.
